Designing equipment for the flightdeck requires careful thought with regard to the human factors associated with the use of the equipment.  It is the designer's responsibility to keep the pilots workload down to a minimum so that they are maximally productive, satisfied, and safe.

Optimum human factor design requires a systematic approach to the design process and full collaboration between the mechanical engineers, software engineers, lighting engineers and most importantly the end use customer.  Many of Avtech’s flightdeck products benefit from our years of experience designing hardware and software for the aerospace community. 

• Careful placement and separation of switches allows for easy control of vital functions
• Using standardized color schemes for annunciation to identify caution, advisory and emergency identification
• Use of fonts that are readable and sized properly
• Using standardized symbology to identify functionality
• Use of spatial reasoning to aurally identify threats and/or warnings
• Careful consideration of new technologies which may reduce the cost of the design but will require a change in the pilot’s workload
